HURRICANE SEASON IS UPON US

In Florida, when we talk about preparing for HURRICANES, the conversations are usually in Tallahassee or Gainesville. (YES, I WENT THERE!) SERIOUSLY, HURRICANE SEASON IS RIGHT AROUND TH

E CORNER and there's been a change in Florida's TAX FREE HURRICANE HOLIDAY. Instead of offering a short “Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday” during hurricane season, Florida now has many hurricane preparedness items permanently tax-free year-round. The change was signed into law in 2025. Items that are now permanently exempt from Florida sales tax include many common hurricane supplies such as: Batteries Portable generators Smoke detectors Carbon monoxide detectors Fire extinguishers Tarps Gas cans Life jackets Insect repellent Sunscreen Tie-down kits and anchors So in 2026, you generally do not need to wait for a special tax-free week to buy many storm prep supplies.
